My average is 79.9 so if someone asks me what my average is can I say 80 or would that be considered lying

saying 80 isn't lying because normally it is rounded up to the nearest whole number so no it's not lying.

Averages are numbers. Are you permitted to 'round up' by the person you're talking to? If you don't know, ask. It's not lying if you always round to the nearest whole number, but those to whom you're speaking might consider it so. Why not just say you have a 'c' average?

Not lying at all. My son got an 89.6 average in a class, so he got an A-, because it rounded to 90.. It's perfectly legitimate.
