If you are going to shoot an intruder, don't shoot to injure. Shoot with every intention of killing the intruder. I did not shoot, but seriously injured a couple of meth heads that broke into my house with a baseball bat. I dragged them out of my living room and onto my back porch, locked the door behind me and called 911.

Seems ironic, but my lawyer prepared me for the possibility that I could be charged with assault for striking the methies, battery for injuring them, and attempted manslaughter for dragging them outside in the cold (it was COLD that night) to await help by the EMTs - which I called.

I wondered at the time if I would have been better off using my handgun and shooting/killing both intruders. The answer I received, at least legally, was 'yes', because there's pretty much only one side to a story when a couple meth heads are dead in your basement and you tell the authorities they broke in and threatened you, your wife, and two-year-old son.

I'd never want to take another life, but at that instant, when I was swinging away at the heads of these two strangers who used a 6 x 6 to break in my doors while my family slept, I have to admit, I wasn't thinking that I should go easy because I might kill them both.

Depends on where you live. If you live in a state with a "Castle" law you can use deadly force against an intruder in your home if you feel the need. Other states require that you have no way to escape before you use deadly force.

Depending on the state you live in it is different. Some states have "make my day" laws which allow you to shoot an intruder in your home regardless of his armed status.

It really depends on what state you live in, in New Mexico even if he is outside your house, but on your property you can shoot to kill whether he is armed or not.

It depends on where you live - each state has different laws on this subject.

In Texas we can shoot anyone, for any reason. Just ask the vice president.

All of the above are fine as long as he is inside your house and you feel that you are in grave danger.
