I've read the entire Dark Tower series (gunslinger), and although it took a little time to really get into them, really enjoyed the ride.
The Stand has to be one of King's most monumental works.
Gosh, this is the stuff I used to have nightmares about as a kid. I loved it, and it is one of the few books I would read again.
One of his newer release, Lisey's story is running a close 2nd.

Yes, the Dark Tower series (Gunslinger books) are amazing, they're my favorite. Favorite individual novel is usually It, but lately I've been saying Lisey's story.
As for short stories, my favorite is "All That You Love Will Be Carried Away."

The Dark Towers novels of which you refer to are an excellent tale but require loads of time to complete. My Favorite King novel is The Talisman written with Peter Straub . It's a great tale. Another favorite is Rose Madder.

I don't really have a favorite Stephen King short story, but my favorite novels are Lisey's Story, Bag of Bones, It, and Misery. I also like Rose Madder and Firestarter. Not a big fan of Christine.

I'm working my way through all of his books; I've read about 20 so far.
My favorite is the story about the library policeman in "Four Past Midnight." I was working in a library at the time I read it, and the idea of demons collecting library fines struck me as hilarious.

The Stand because I like to read that type of book. I really think that King's earlier books are his best.
