I posted this in the wrong section and got no answers so I'm reposting this. I was typing on my laptop when all of the sudden the key popped out. I kept trying to put it back on but the key didn't work as good as it did before. I took it off again and noticed that the little tan part under the key was broken. I examined it and tried to put it back but it would work. I realized that it's just the little tan part that is the problem. So my question is: where can I get a new piece to connect me key. If you don't know what this is I'm sorry but I don't know what to look for or what it's called. Please help.

My laptop is still on warrenty, and I have a lot saved on it. If I take it back to Circuit City, will they take it away and give me a new one or will they just repair the one I have?

Go to a technician, or a store such as best buy. Or call the laptop manufacturer, they are the only ones who have a key. Don't worry a key can't cost more than 20 dollars, at least I think.

The keys typically require a special tool to put keys back on. In any case, it is gonna be much easier to just buy a new keyboard for it. Call the manufacturer and they will give you details on how to get it replaced. If they won't do the repair themselves, then order the keyboard from them and when it comes in, find a place like best buy/circuit city or a local computer nerd shop where they can replace the keyboard for you.

Keyboards normally cost about $35 bucks. Unless it is an Apple, those normally cost about $100 - $150.

I think it is unlikely you will be able to get just the key. You probably can get a new keyboard. They are usually pretty easy to remove and replace. You have to contact the company that makes or distributes the computer. Most of these are throw aways - not repairable. I think soon the whole laptop will be a throw away.

depends on what type of laptop it is. replacing the keyboards are not that easy.... losts of little screws and tiny cables..... I would say... and this is just a guess... figure say $100 to $150 for it.. and this is consevative I think..... again depends on the cost of the part... labor wise would be prolly an hour to do it... or less

You will have to buy a whole new keyboard. I have an auction on Ebay for a Dell Latitude or Inspiron keyboard...just search. If that isn't your laptop's model, just search on Ebay for one...you can usually get one for cheap. But, if your laptop is under warranty, you can get your manufacturer to send you one for free.
