can anyone explain to me why the yankees/orioles was postponed when they played 8 innings and an official game is 5 innings?

because the game was suspended after the top half of the 8th. going into the inning the game was tied, but the yankees took the lead in the top half. since Baltimore didnt have a chance to tie the game, it is unfair to call the game without giving them an equal shot. if the 8th inning had ended and then the game was called, the Yanks would have gotten the Win

This rule has changed slightly. A complete game is still 5 innings or 4.5 innings if the home team is ahead. The rule used to be that after 5 innings you would go back to the last completed inning for the winner. Last nights game actually only went 7.5 innings with the Yankees scoring 4 runs in the top of the eighth inning which gave them a 8-6 lead. They no longer take away activity that occurred, where the Yankees would have lost, but rather complete the game at a later date. I hope this answers your question.

A game is official after 5 innings. So for this game it is the top of the 8th and the rains come. Since the O’s are the home team, rules say they MUST be allowed to bat and therefore complete the 8th inning for it to be considered a complete game. They did not complete the 8th inning so therefore they have to suspend the game and pick it up exactly where it left off.

the yanks were losing 4-6 than during the 8th inning the yanks not only caugh up but started winning at 8-6, no if they ended (called) the game the orioles would have won because the yankees never finished the 8th inning there was only 2 outs with damon on first and melky on 3rd. the os would have won cuz the inning which the yanks scored wasent finished so they cant count it... it wouldnt b fair to call it to the yankkees... it will b replayed on july 27

The game would have been over if the Yankees did not take the lead, if they would have been losing it would have been called and the O's would have won. Because the yankees took the lead the O's, being the home team, are entitled to one more at bat. Plus the Yankees were still batting when it was called.

they didn't finish the 8th inning and under the new rules, the orioles had to have another at bat to finish the inning, otherwise it would be unfair because the yankees would've had an extra at bat.

because they needed to get the inning over because baltimore was down and the yankees got up in the top half of the inning.

B/c Baltimore didn't get the chance to bat in the bottom of the 8th.

It may have to do with it being rained out, those can be finished, I believe.
