Get an alternator off of a diesel engine that has a vacuum pump on the back of it, that should sort it ok.

Give it a try as it is anyway, though. Might work just fine anyhow,

First thing to do is to change the check valve on the booster, its where the hose plugs in. Those tend to freeze up sometimes. If that dont work you really dont have any other choice. You wont lose your brkes but you will lose all power assist and it will be very difficult to press that brake pedal. And get used to the high prices. Volvos are some of the most expensive vehicles to repair

Get a fairly good size secondary vacuum reservoir and check valve to put in line with the original vac line to the booster if it had one...otherwise, a vacuum pump or hydro-boost unit are in order. Speed shops will have info and systems available.

as long as you have a vac tank you should be fine. If you don't have a fitting anywhere on the intake manifold to hook up to for the vac source, you may have to either fabricate one or maybe even buy a vac pump.
