Sir Robert Walpole is generally regarded as the first Prime Minister in the modern sense; although adoption of the phrase "Prime Minister" in any formal or official sense did not come until many years later (indeed, at Walpole's time it would have been seen as an insult). (Sir Henry Campbell-Bannerman is often considered the first to officially bear the title of Prime Minister

whats a priminister its not in the dictionary as far as i can see.
The first Prime Minister was the Whig politician Sir Robert Walpole from 1721 to 1742, although the title of Prime Minister in the UK is more of a courtesy name as The United Kingdom's Constitution, being largely unwritten, doesn't mention a Prime Minister. Instead his seat in the cabinet is as First Lord Of The Treasury.
It's a bit like calling your GP doctor -- they will have a medical degree such as MB BS, some GPs will have MRCGP or FRCGP (Member or Fellow of the Royal College of General Practitioners) after their name, but few actually have a doctorate.

It depends on how you define prime minister. If you mean "acting head of state" in a political sense, then it's generally considered Sir Robert Walpole. If you mean "holding the title of 'Prime Minister' as opposed to just the role played by that title, then it's sometimes considered James Arthur Balfour (1902-1905) or Sir Henry Campbell-Bannerman (1905-1908).

The title was actually created in 1905 so there is some dispute. Prior to "Prime Minister" that effective position was called "First Minister".
