I have two equations I am stuck on. Can someone help me and explain a little how I might do these?
1. let f(x)=x^2+3x+2, find f(0)
2. let f(x)=-x^3-x^2+2x-8, find f(-1), f(0), f(2)
Thank you so much

1. let f(x)=x^2+3x+2, find f(0)
f(0) is simply asking what f(x) would equal if x were to be 0.
subtitute in 0 for x.
f(0)=0^2+3(0)+2
f(0)=0+0+2
f(0)=2

2. let f(x)=-x^3-x^2+2x-8, find f(-1), f(0), f(2)
the same thing goes for here:
substitute in each of the given and solve:
f(-1)=-(-1)^3-(-1)^2+2(-1)-8
remember PEMDAS:
f(-1)=-(-1)-(1)-2-8
f(-1)=1-1-2-8
f(-1)=-2-8
f(-1)=-10

f(0)=-(0)^3-(0)^2+2(0)-8
f(0)=0-0+0-8
f(0)=-8

f(2)=-(2)^3-(2)^2+2(2)-8
f(2)=-(8)-(4)+4-8
f(2)=-8-4+4-8
f(2)=-12+4-8
f(2)=-8-8
f(2)=-16

find f(a) by plugging the value a into the expression for the function.

f(x) = x² + 3x + 2
f(0) =0² + 3(0) + 2 = 2

f(x) = -x^3 - x² + 2x - 8
f(-1) = -(-1)^3 - (-1)² + 2(-1) - 8
f(-1) = 1 - 1 - 2 - 8 = -10
f(0) = -(0)^3 - 0² + 2(0) - 8
f(0) = -8
f(2) = -(2)^3 - 2² + 2(2) - 8
f(2) = -8 - 4 + 4 - 8 = -16

1. Plug in 0 for x.

f(0) = (0)^2 + 3(0) + 2 = 0 + 0 + 2 = 2

2. Plug in -1, 0 and 2 for x

f(-1) = -(-1)^3 - (-1)^2 + 2(-1) - 8 = -(-1) - 1 - 2 - 8 = -10
f(0) = -(0)^3 - (0)^2 + 2(0) - 8 = 0 + 0 + 0 - 8 = -8
f(2) = -(2)^3 - (2)^2 + 2(2) - 8 = -8 - 4 + 4 - 8 = -16

1. f(0)=(0)^2+3(0)+2=2

2. f(-1)=-(-1)^3-(-1)^2+2(-1)-8
=-(-1)-(1)-2-8
=1-1-10
=-10
f(0)=-(0)^3-(0)^2+2(0)-8
=-8
f(2)=-(2)^3-(2)^2+2(2)-8
=-8-4+4-8
=-16

For the first one, just plug in 0 wherever it says "x".

f(0)=0^2+3(0)+2

f(0) = 0 + 0 + 2

f(0) = 2

For the second one, do the same thing.

Finding f(-1):
f(-1)= -(-1)^3 - (-1)^2 + 2(-1) -8

f(-1)= 1 - 1 - 2 - 8

f(-1) = -12

Repeat for f(0) and f(2).

Make sure you keep track of your positive and negative signs. I hope that helps!
