Have you seen a dog that may have lost many homes, may live in the street, may be was bit, mistreated and abandoned... but even so he keeps a nice attitude, shy at first, but is friendly, if you call him he will come, you could touch him, you could even take him home.

Different fear... more afraid of being alone, than of loss or hurt, more like myself. Different dangers too... not of shallow relations or being alone, but of being with someone who is wrong, who could hurt.

No, just too afraid because I think they will find a way to either hold something over my head or use it against me for "god only knows what".

So, what is going on now Haroula? There is always some personal meaning behind your questions and those that you star - I trust you by the way.

Have a good day, now it is back to work for me!

No. Not because I'm afraid to lose them. I'm a navy brat, so we moved all over when I was growing up. You just learn that just because you're not in the same place, doesn't mean you aren't friends anymore. Honestly, knowing that I wasn't going to always be there made it easier to talk to people, like the time was more valuable.

I used to be afraid of getting to close to people because I was more afraid of them hurting me..... losing them I suppose is one way to look at it.

Somewhere in my 20's I discovered that nothing ventured, nothing gained was a much better way to live life...

Since then, I feel as if i'm liberated...so... now I let people in... if they hurt me, well... it's just an experience i'll have to go through....

it's better than living in a in a self imposed prison all my life...

Yes, hit the nail on the head. That's exactly it.
I know there will be several things in life to disappoint you, but why bring disappointment and sadness into your life when you don't have to. It's just easier to keep some people at a distance ...

In a way, yes. I think it is mostly with guys, though. I just don't trust many guys. So, I'll find myself interested in a guy, but I keep him at arm's length, because I don't want to get too close. *sigh*

I am afraid to get too close to people because I have been disappointed by them plenty of times.

I do not know if I am afraid but it takes me a long time for me to trust anyone but I am more open once you get to know me.
