No, that's not exactly true. Many things affect when your period will start. Don't worry about starting your period. It's not like blood with start gushing, it will just be a little tiny bit of blood in your underwear. Put a pad in your purse or bookbag just in case and enjoy life without a period.

I started mine when I was 11. Some may start at about the age their mom did, some may not. There are many factors that come into play. It's always scary when you don't know what you expect, most girls are. As another mentioned, I would keep a few pads in easy to get to places, in a pocket of your book bag, your locker etc. Listen to your body and likely, you will know it's happening not long after it starts. It seems like these days girls are starting a lot earlier than they used to. but once it's happened and you know what to expect, it will just be a normal thing that once in awhile becomes a bit of an inconvienance. But I'm sure all of your friends are thinking about and worrying about it also, even if they don't talk about it.

Everyone is different. I started mine when I was 11, a friend of mine didn't start hers until she was 14. They are finding that it has a lot to do with your diet. I'm sorry I don't have any more information on that, but I think if you eat a lot of fast food you can start as early as 9. I am not sure.
Well let me just tell you this much, if you haven't gotten it yet, then be glad! Enjoy being a kid for as long as you can, I hope you get yours in a couple of years. I'm on mine now and I feel soooo sick! Take care.

Every girl before you and all of them after that wonders this. The history of your mom and grandma's beginning period plays a role but alot of other factors play in. You could eat differently than your mother and get it earlier due to hormones and steroids commonly found in grocery meats, you could be surrounded my pheromones of girls hitting puberty earlier on than before.
You can't possibly know when you will start your period so the best thing you can do is be prepared. Decide which type of product you would like to use - pads, tampons, etc. Learn how they work and have some on hand and RELAX. It happens to all of us, and we all survived.

Some start as early as 10, and others as late as 19. But it's true, generally it follows genetics. There isn't a reason to be scared, it happens to every girl, and there is plenty of people who can tell you what to do when the time does come.

No not all people start their periods when there moms did. thats not true.. before you start your period your stomach is going to start to hurt. not like a stomach ach.. your probably going to get a feeling of cramps before you start your cycle. your body needs to get ready for the cycle. thats why every girl starts their period at different ages. every body is different.. just dont worry about when your going to get it. when i got my period it was a suprise because i didnt know how or when i was going to get it. i started my period when i was 11,, my sister started hers when she was 10, my mom started hers when she was 14.. see everyone is different..

i stared mine last summer when i was twelve and don't worry bout it it can happen at any time. it might come on to a little shock at first but you have no worries if you think it might start durring an event example:b-day party, at the mall, at a friends house, etc. bring a pad with you, but don't make a big deal about it. so just be prepared and good luck.

You start your period when your body is ready and not before.
The age of your mom, sister etc has nothing to do with it.
You will experience changes in your body and see changes...this is a good indicator that your on your way to your first period.
