It will take a incredible second half for them to make the playoffs.

The All-Star break should be a time for the to reflect and come together as a group and set goals for what they need to do to get back into the thick of things.

I don't believe the Yankees will have a better record than the Tigers or Indians at season end since both teams are playing very well. That would mean that the Yankees would have to beat the Red Sox and win the division to go to the playoffs. I would give no other team a chance if they were in the same situation as the Yankees but I do still think the Yankees have a shot. You know that Steinbrenner is not going to just roll over and will spend money and do whatever is needed to get them to the playoffs. Don't count the Yankees out just yet.

For the guy that said they will win 20 or 25 games in a row, you're crazy.

Now, I don't think that the Yankees will get into the playoffs. They will have to finish ahead of Boston, which I don't see happening, or win the wildcard, which I also don't see happening. Roger Clemens was brought in to bring the Yankees into contention, but he has an ERA of 5.32.

The only way I see the Yankees getting in, is if the Indians fade, like they have a history of doing in the second half. Also, they have to worry about Oakland, who has a history of heating up in the second half. I think Oakland and the Yankees will be two good teams left out of the playoffs because of a challenging AL division.

none. they are 11 freaking games back! it's hard to keep "yankee hatred" out of the answer when it is so obvious how much "yankee love" went into asking it. for you to even be considering that the yankees have a shot at the playoffs is silly. they would have to jump 2 teams from 11 games back to WIN the division. they have no wild card shot due to detroit and cleveland. just give it up already...take a deep breath and just accept it...say it with me...the yankees are not very good...the yankees are not very good...feel better?

I'm going to say 5-10% chance. I don't think they'll catch the Red Sox for the division title, but there's always the Wild Card. With the way the Indians and Tigers are playing in the Central, both of those teams are going to end up in at least the mid 90s in wins. So if you figure it takes 95 wins to get the Wild Card this year, the Yanks will have to go 59-28 the rest of the season. Thats really tough - but not impossible.

I believe they will not make the playoffs. As the season wears on, so does the bullpen. The starters are, as a group, old (with Mussina, Pettite and Clemens) and their young starter (Wang) really got the benefit of a high octane offence last year and is really not a 19 game winner.

There are a number of players that seem great until they put on that uniform and despite talk about Abreu heating up, he is one of them.

Damon is on the wrong side of young and is now having injury issues. Cano is now available in a lot of fantasy leagues and you wouldn't have expected that of a top 3 in BA finisher.

I think there are simply too many more balanced teams for them to win the wild card this year.

only because they do have the talent to go to the playoffs, even if everything isnt working out

mathematically there are 6 real contenders for the Wild Card, so all teams evenly would have a 16% chance

id put the Yankees at 15%

Stick a fork in them, they're done.

They have a great lineup, but no pitching. Injuries have killed them this year. Everyone thought that The Rocket would solve all their problems. IMO, he's done.

Then they went on that 9 game winning streak. But look at the teams they played. The White Sox, Pirates, and Diamondbacks aren't exactly the cream of the crop in MLB.

So I personally think that there's no way they can make it this year. Boston will win that division. And I think whoever doesn't win the AL Central, either the Tigers or Indians, will be the AL WIld Card.

They are just to good of a team not to.

I doubt they will catch Boston...But.. I think at some point they will go on a streak winning like 20 of 25 and get right back up at the top of wild card race.

60%

Re-read my post -- i didnt say win 20 or 25 in a row. I said win 20 out of 25. They have done that before and tend to do it every year. So just wait and see.

But I think the only way they will make it is buying getting a good set up man. Proctor and Farnsworth are a joke in tough situations. Look at their stats in close games. They blow every lead. Thats why Rivera only has like 9 saves this year because his set up guys blow it. They need Gange and Rivera to work as co-closers and 8th inning.

I don't think they will make the play offs this year. Boston will take the division and the wild card the way it looks right now will come out of the central either detroit or cleveland. But who knows things could change still a lot of games to play still.

By the way little kids from the wrestling section are gonna come over and post stupid things here just try to ignore them. they are doing it in the football section right now.
