thank God for eyes to see. Even though the reflection looking back at me is far less than perfect. I am blessed to be here. So I try not to complain about simple physical imperfections and just thank him for the simple things (eyes to see ears to hear and just having life itself.)

Nice to hear from you Claire! Interesting research. Perhaps we need to recalibrate the candlepower of our little shining stars! But I have to admit I'm uncomfortable with the idea of moving down a couple of notches (e.g., stating, "3 Year Old children are as smart as Sea Gulls or something else). More later. Considerable appreciation for Question This and Bronwen's informative responses. I can certainly sympathize with those perspectives. Just would like to add a personal anecdote... When my son was born he had to spend the first month of his life at the hospital in an incubator. (He is fine now!). When we had to leave, we were able to at least provide some surrogate parental stimulation by leasing a small Mickey Mouse doll. It lessened our guilt, if nothing else. The doll played a song over and over. When he was able to leave the hospital, I kept the doll. When he was four, he found a bag of dolls (which is another story). I took the Mickey Mouse doll and mixed it in with the other dozen dolls (e.g., Donald Duck, Goofy, Snow White,) and told him to try to guess which doll kept him company when he was in the hospital.). Of course, he picked the Mickey Mouse doll. Bad science, of course! But I'm still convinced he Knew! and, I still have the doll.
