The Velvet Underground. These guys were way ahead of their time. They started around the same time the Beatles got popular, but only got attention for their controversial lyrics. Their first cd, The Velvet Underground and Nico, is one of the best albums Ive ever heard. They didnt last long because Lou Reed wanted to go solo, but their stuff is amazing.
Im not too into older stuff, but other than The Velvet Underground and the Beatles I listen to Televison and Joy Division alot.
