Why don't you ask your employer? If it's in a warehouse or enclosed area, probably not.

That depends on the company you work for. Where I worked, the drivers would smoke outside. It is not a good idea, if the lifts are electrically operated. We have both propane and electric. For the most part the drivers do not smoke while operating the lifts.

if it has no "cab" and you are outside then technically you can as it wouldn't be classed as an "enclosed place of work," however most companies now follow a no smoking on site policy - therefore eliminating the possibility of any discrepancies.

i work for a local authority in scotland and any vehicle that is used for work purposes is their property and therefore illegal to smoke in. it includes work vans and cars. i have a job that requires me to use my own car and during work hours they claim it is their property and no one can smoke in it! it can be a sackable offence

your employer would have to answer that, but a quick question, is a Propane Lift or Electric or Gas?
If other than Electric, if you ask your employer, he may fire you for stupidity.
