If you were in the stands and caught the 500 homerun ball of Frank Thomas and he asked for you to come and see him after the game and offered to autograph another ball, a game jersey, game glove, and a game bat in exchange for the homerun ball, would you do it? Honest answers only would be appreciated.

Me, personally, wouldn't even ask for that. I'm a fan of the game and the love to watch these milestones get passed. If he insisted on giving me those 3 things I would take them and put them with the rest of the memorabillia I have collected over the past couple of years. Who am I to hold his achievement homerun ball for ransom. I think it's stupid when people ask for something in return. It's not like we aas fans helped him hit any of his homeruns. We simply bought a ticket to watch our team play and happen to be in the right spot. I hate when people try to "Get Rich" off of a great athletes accomplishments. Give up the ball and whatever Frank decides to give you in return, just be happy with that. No one can ever take away from you that you caught the ball.

I was actually supposed to be at that game yesterday, not to say that I would have caught that ball or anything, we probably would have sat over the Twins dugout. Truth be told, I'm not much of a Frank Thomas fan, but a huge Twins fan. I probably would have done the same thing. Since they were playing in Minnesota, I would have asked if was at all possible to meet some of the Twins players, get some pictures & maybe a few autographs. That's an experience certainly worth the price of that ball.

Yes...

To me that homerun ball would be just another ball after a while. I know it's very important, and would have plenty of value on EBay as well. What it means to Frank Thomas is more than it will ever be worth on EBay or to myself.

The chance to meet him, and receive all that autograph gear would mean a lot more to me. That is especially if I was to get a picture with him as well. That is a memory to tell your kids about. Not the homerun ball that your wife would probably nag you to death over as being an "ordinary" ball.

I would give it back as dumb as that may sound its a life long trophey he has pursued and earns it. Frank Thomas is a nice guy and i am pretty sure he would be like Mark mcgwire. When he hit the record home run ball for a season the fan have it to him and he sign a whole bunch of stuff autographed its really out of respect to the player

Throw it back!!! How cool would that be to throw back Frank Thomas' 500th homerun ball. More people would recognize you. You would be the one tha threw the ball back. Who caught Barry Bonds 700 or Sammy Sosas 600? Nobody knows, but if you threw back Frank Thomas' 500 people would talk about you forever.

Even though I don't like Frank Thomas that much, I do love baseball, and I understand how much that ball probably means to him. Just knowing I caught the ball would be enough for me, and I would let him take it (even if he was an *** and didn't offer me anything in return).

I would definately give it back to Big Hurt. I am a life-long White Sox fan and we best know how long, hard, and enjoyable his ride to 500 has been (not saying A's and Jays' fans don't, lol). Collecting MVP's and playoff births along the way, he has definately deserved to get his piece of history back.
And if I got 4 signed things in return, that's more than fair. And throw in the possibility of meeting some good players like Vernon Wells, Alex Rios, Troy Glaus, Roy Halladay, A.J. Burnett, and B.J. Ryan along with the Big Hurt himself, I wouldn't even hesitate to give Frank what he deserves.
He has to be one of the top Sox players of all time, maybe behind Aparicio, Fisk, and Fox, but he's definately up there. My hat goes off to him and I hope he becomes a member of the Hall of Fame

I think so.

Getting that game ball is merely circumstantial. You were lucky to be in the right place at the right time.

I would do (as a fan) what I would like a fan to do if I just hit the 500th home run of my career. Be a nice person.

Getting to meet them and getting some autographed stuff isn't circumstantial though. Its based on your generosity and human nature and that's something to be proud of.

Anyone thinking that a 500th home run is their ticket to riches is simply overvaluing it.
Bonds 756th home run, I wouldn't give back though. One, because it's bonds, two because it's more a part of history (I would think of giving it to Hank Aaron though)

I would suggest that season tickets for the next year would be really nice, but professional athletes are quite cheap. They like to keep their money in their money managers hands.

I do whatever Frank Thomas wanted me to do with it, I mean the only reason the ball has any meaning is that HE hit it HIS 500th home run with it....when you think about it that way, what right do I really have to make any decision over HIS 500 home run ball.

I'd give it back for sure...just to catch that ball would be a thrill. But to shake hands and take pictures with the 21st first player ever to hit 500 HR would be amazing.

Plus, if I didn't wanna give it to him...I'd be quite intimidated...look at the guy. I'd have nightmares every night about the Big Hurt walking into my room standing at the doorway with the bat he used to hit #500. He'd probably track me down and beat me down...then steal his ball back, ha ha.
