Here's what I mean:
If you were floating in a raft or little boat with holes in it, and you were on the brink of survival, and you saw a big ship there and its Captain GW hasn't made it impossible to get on the ship unnoticed, wouldn't you risk your life to save your family and get on the big ship?
Aren't these that hate the immigrants so much the ones that would be calling for us to make all those that got on the ship to jump back in the sea?

And shouldn't the super rich that own all the cargo in the ship pay for the protection of the ship?
Tax cuts for the super rich aren't going to help pay for such a big military budget!!
And bashing the poor for trying to survive isn't exactly "Love thy neighbor." is it?

I do understand the "trickle down" theory and there's a grain of truth in it, IF we trust that those keeping more of their money are going to reinvest in our economy. Chances are they just buy more property and charge higher rents.

Bryan: how else do you propose paying for the Iraq war? Borrow and spend??

Those are some great thoughts tompink.

I have much respect for most immigrants. While most American kids are seeing how much money they can suck out of their parents, young Mexicans are working in the hot sun all day, for low pay so they can send back money to their families in Mexico.

So if your company refuses to by office supplies, it is ok to steal them from a company that does? And it is the responsibility of the other company to give them to you for free, because it has them?
Going back to your example.
It would depend on how fast my own boat was sinking. Those that you describe as “hate the immigrants” are more in favor of people repairing their own boat so that they don’t have to come to the big ship, or at least for them to ask permission to come on board, there is a line up of people asking and being allowed to get on board. There is an important part you are missing, there are those that hate immigrants and those that hate people that are here illegally, these are not the same groups of people, even if a very few belong to both groups.

The super rich/successfully are providing the jobs and money for the crew. Is the crew expected to only defend themselves if they are paid to? Or do you believe that successful people only get that way by criminal activity, or their connections?

As far as “love thy neighbor”, most people, if they can, will help someone that asks for help, but are not likely to help a person engaged in stealing from them.

As far as charging higher rents, they can only charge them if people can pay for them. If people can’t pay, then those higher rent places will just sit there looking pretty and cost the successful person to maintain. Gosh, that investment made sense.

Your example perfectly describes the situation we are seeing.

Now I have an example to illustrate WHY those ships are sinking. The U.S. is like the industrious squirrel that spent the whole summer tirelessly putting away enough nuts to feed itself during times of scarcity. It did what it needed to, and didn't take shortcuts.

Other countries are like the careless rabbit that just darts along in any aimless direction and plays all day.

The problem is, the U.S. acts like the steam release valve on a pressure cooker. If we DIDN'T allow all these (expecially Mexican) immigrants in the U.S., these people would build up enough anger and resentment towards their own government to demand real reforms. This is not happening because they can always leave Mexico if they are dissatisfied. We're kind of the equivalent of a quick, cheap, and easy Vegas divorce.

The kinder course of action in the long run would be to tell these people, "You aren't children anymore. Learn to swim on your own".

you're right. bush expects the lower classes to pay, but not those with the money and who make money easily. but those who work everyday of their lives just to make it by are charged more. "Love thy neighbor" i think means to help out all that we can. if this is true then we should help make our surrounding countries better so that they dont have to "break" into the USA. we are already in debt towards the war in Iraq, how much deeper can you dig the hole before we fall through? all i got to say is were are the lifeboats?

At least some of those boats are sinking because the big ship was sailed right into the middle of them by an incompetent helmsman, under the orders of an incompetent captain.

I think that America has actually helped out too many people for too long. What have we ever got in return for doing all the things we do? Those countries never help out when we need it (Hurricane Katrina anyone?) so why keep on fueling ungrateful countries?

What the heck? Ok that is weird. This country is here only because of our military. If we are sinking then the rest of the world has already sunk.

Tax cuts boost economy which increases the amount of money that flows into the Government from taxes on businesses. You don't understand economics well.

Ummmmmmm.....so America is sucessful & others aint? Is that where this is going?

Well, the big ship has holes....it aint gonna float for long unless people start to provide for themselves and stop taking, taking, taking from the government. They need to try to give back.
