Yup, I'm infected. It's an annoying virus that automatically changes my screensaver to a link that will probably give me more viruses. It also canges my homepage to another virusy link, as well as causing pop-ups that pop up every five minutes or so that link to even more virusy links. I've even found suspicius files and tried deleting them, but they always keep re-appearing somehow. I ran AVG... didn't solve the problem. If you can help me solve this problem, I'd be extremely grateful.

Your computer is infected with spyware.
Spyware is a program with the main objective of monitoring users activities. But it can also steal private information, install unwanted software, redirect browsers to other websites than the ones the user wants to visit or even displays advertisements.

You are infected with spyware if:

* You see too much pop-up advertisements.
* Your browser has toolbars that you haven't installed.
* Your homepage has changed (and you can't change it back).
* Other settings have changed without your permission.
* Your computer is slow.

To get rid of spyware and keep your computer clean you have to use an antispyware or even more. You can download free antispyware software from the Download antispyware page.

If you have a bunch of pop-ups telling you that you are infected, you most likely have a form of smitfraud.

Download the Smitfraud removal tool:

My second step would be to try another Antivir program, one that will all so search for malware/greyware.

A good one to try is Trendmicro

http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/free_security_tools/housecall_free_scan.php?WT.cg_n=home_qa_housecall

my final step would be to scan with an adware removal software, like Spybot S&D , or Adaware

If you've gotten adware, there's a unfastened application known as Lavasoft Ad-conscious SE private who would support you eliminating downloaded advert-ware, adware, dialing techniques, and so forth. Those records can sluggish down your laptop to the factor of a crash down. You certainly must get a defense application like Norton or MacAffee a minimum of with a 36 months subscription, they block ads and preserve your laptop from malicious application AND use the Lavasoft advert-conscious to wash your laptop of monitoring cookies and information miners at least one time per week.

If you can get on the net without to much trouble, you can try a few online scanners that check for malware (spy, ad and virus).

housecall.antivirus.com
pandasecurity.com (use the active scan)

If they can, they will also remove. If not, then at least they will tell you what you are dealing with and you can go from there.

Sounds more like spyware then a virus. Try running a couple of spyware removal programs. Here's the url to two good ones.

Adaware
