How long can my used car dealer legally take to get this to me? I need it asap. I already called him twice, and he keeps telling me he needs to get around to it, to get it from the bank.

Tell the dealer you're calling the police to report Grand Theft Auto -the dealer's possession of that title is tantamount to illegal taking of the vehicle itself. Tell him that's your FIRST call. Your next is going to be to the DMV to request his dealer license be revoked. Tell him you think the delay may be because he got the car illegally in the first place and you'll let the police sort it out.

Tell the dealer those will be your very next calls after you get off the phone -you're not waiting for him to do anything. You're acting NOW. The reason for calling is so HE can have the title ready to hand over to the authorities when they get there. If the dealer says he'll have it ready for you to pick up NOW, that's not good enough. Tell him he can have it delivered to YOU NOW, and if that happens, you'll call the cops and DMV back and tell them you finally got your title.

Then hang up. Have the numbers handy so you can make your calls immediately after talking to the guy. If the police say it is really NOT grand theft, then you say, "OK, but it is now theft of my title -can't you call him and do something?" Don't let up. Tell the DMV you are getting really uncomfortable about not getting your title and now suspect that the dealer may have had illegal possession of the car all along.

The dealer may try to call you back -so if he get's a busy -that's a good thing. If he does reach you, just say your calls have been made and he can drop off the title if he wants to -or not. Then hang up.

Go!

Your dealer sounds shady. Your title should be in a dealer safety deposit box. Or for the big dealers in a corporate office somewhere....mostly out of state. 30 days is the longest time you should wait before taking any legal action. Most of the time a nice litle comment like" yeah I spoke to my uncle he's a Attorney" and he sad .........

Keep calling at least once a day! The dealer should get sick of you and deal with it!

Shady car sales!

Got to love it!

Man up about the situation and show up to the dealer and demand it. Now if the dealership is in overtown or little haiti i recomend you go during daylight and bring a cop with you.

The dealer shouldn't have it, it should be in the posession of whoever loaned you the money. Contact them directly.

Charge them a late fee for everyday they stall. Sound ridiculous? Ask yourself this question: "Would they have charged me a late fee if I didn't make my payments on time?" The answer is obvious.
