If one selects celibacy, one obviously sees that there is indeed a greater good than pleasure and physical appeasement.

How can you know what you are missing if you never had it to begin with? I'm sure you enjoyed your life before you became sexually active as did everyone (I assume). If you are happy with yourself then there is no reason that a choice of celibacy would change that...... it could leave you with questions and interest but it wouldnd't change your pleasures.

Pleasure is relative. Celibacy is like any other option you take in your life. If you choose it, you will immediately enjoy its related pleasures. On the other hand, if it is dictated, or forced onto your life style, it's hell.

There is pleasure associated with anything that has to do with being alive and staying that way. Sex or celibacy....different people can enjoy either option.

hey guys, the question was about celibacy not about ascetic life, he can eat, go to movies, drink, have fun... just no sex.
is there any pleasure... depends what makes you tick and what made you choose a celibate life. if it's religion and it fulfills you... great for you.
if it was not a choice but imposed on you... then u might be in trouble.

Oh, yes. Celibacy is one of my favorite vegetables. It's pleasures come most when eaten with peanut butter.

In a sex/food based society you would think that the "works of the flesh", addiction to those, is everything, along with power and greed. Hm. Personally sex is for two to five minutes, love is all over the body for a lifetime. Sex is kids and responsibility, celebacy is freedom and autonomy. One can live cheaper than four. I get up in the middle of the night and do what I want, as loud as I want, dressed as I want or not as I want. Pure joy makes me tingle from my head to my toes and I have me as long as I live, I don't believe in divorce, am always faithful, apologize when I make a mistake and clean up after myself. I have even learned to be kind and thoughtful to myself and then everyone else too. When you fill your life with things and doings, your mind with thoughts and concerns, there's no room to live, always taking care of things. Joy isn't without, it's within. So's our connection to the universe and all life. If we can relate to ourself we can relate to everyone. In the 'mean' time we have the world we do. People try to relate on the outside and wonder why it never works. Oh, and God. Think of it as the philosophy of spirituality.

if you're talking about priesthood or becomming a nun, I can't help you. I could never do that. But if you're talking about just not having sex until you're ready or married, it's not boring at all. You can use the time with yourself to explore your body. Then by the time you have a sexual relationship, you'll already know how to respond to the feeling your body is having.

No positive externalies or products. Quite the opposite actually. Some people simply don't enjoy sex. So it benefits them.
