Well, my friends have asked me this many times. One time, I was having a housewarming party, and I clearly stated, please do not bring any gifts. I genuinely didn't want anything, because at the time, I felt like I already had everything! Some people still brought me gifts, but all those gifts just went to waste, because they were doubles of things I already had! Anyways, if your friend tells you not to get her a gift, but you would still want to get her something, then maybe give her a card. =)

people only say they dont want you to get them something because they dont want you to go out of your way for them. when actually they would love a gift. follow what your heart wants you to do.
