Find and download the drivers.

Find your original CDs that came with your computer. One of the CDs should have the drivers for your system's hardware. Put it in the CD drive and let it autostart. Often times there is a menu option for installing the drivers for the hardware.

If you didn't get the CDs, then Dell most likely put them in a separate partition on the hard drive. When you reformated all partitions, you most likely wiped that out. You will need to determine what each device is and download the appropriate drivers from the Internet. Windows Update, or rather Microsoft Update can help you with some of those.

I like to make a ghost image of a running system before reformatting the hard drive. This way, I can retrieve lost drivers and such, from a ghost image, after reformatting.

Pull out your Device Driver cd that came from Dell and load the device drivers.

You need the device drivers to enable the items you identified.

If you do not have all the device drivers or the driver disc, determine the device driver of your ethernet controller and download it on a working pc from the internet. Copy this to cd or floppy and load it onto your reformatted pc. This will give you LAN and WAN access on the reformatted pc. Then go to the Dell site and download all the other drivers for the other devices.

By the way this is a common question asked by many first time pc reformatters.

Good luck!

It appears that you are missing the drivers for those devices. there should be another CD marked "device drivers" that came with the laptop. You will need to use the cd to reinstall them. It should pop up a menu when you insert the cd into the system and give you the options of which device to install, ie video, sound, network adapter, ect...

If you do not have the CD, from another computer (or if the laptop has network capability) you can go to dells website at
support.dell.com and from there you can get the drivers for your model of laptop. It will be a drop down menu approach to finding your drivers.

You permanently have to install the driver which can be found either on CDs provided with your system under the name of Sound-card or on the net by searching.

if you have not got the disc that came with your laptop go to dell web site find your laptop model and download the drivers from there (save them to your desktop so you can put them on disc so you have always got them)
