I've had my Dakota almost 2 years now. It's always made a sort of whurrrrrrr sound as I accelerate first thing in the morning. I've always assumed it was just warming up. This morning, it whurrred and then cleared up real quick. About 5 minutes later, I noticed my Check Engine light was on. My oil pressure and my heat gauge are fine, battery is fine.

Any ideas? Unfortunately, I don't know much about cars.

Hmmm... it just turned off on it's own. I'll see what happens.

Im pretty sure the dodge dakota has a digital odometer.
Here is how you get the fault code.
Put the key in the ignition.
Dont start the car, but turn the ignition 3 times in a row. You will then get a fault code one the odometer.
Write down that fault code and then go online and look up the code and it will tell you what the problem is.
Or you can go to any auto parts store and they should get the code for you for free.

I bet its a bad or lose gas cap. Thats the most common reason for a check engine light to be on.

This means you have a problem sinced by the computer. You have to have the codes read and see what is wrong. Also check all your fliuds make sure that they are ok. (No oil check engine light on.) Then you can see what needs to be done.

too general, most times its somthing simple like an oxygen sensor or something. hope u live in a state that doesnt require an inspection sticker cuz they'll flag your car if u attempt to get one with the light on. try taking a battery cable off for about ten minutes to allow the computer to shut off, ive seen that work a couple of times.

Take it to an auto parts place and have the codes read. They will tell you what the problem is and will sell you the parts to fix it.
