Because they are governed below that speed. I have a v8 marauder with speedometer of only 140, believe me quite a few people buried the needle after they removed the governor off those cars. (Some nice pictures of that on the marauder forums.) As for horsepower, I am toting 315, but you can only go as fast as your vehicle permits, there are other parts that are not designed to exceed certain speed limits and that includes your firebird.

I have a 2000 Grand Prix GTP. It has the same engine you have and even has the supercharger. So that's 240 horsepower and a 6.5 second 0-60 yet the speedometer only goes to 110 mph! Luckily I have the heads-up-display which show the speed on the windshield and it shows the speed over 110!

A 120 mph speedometer is about standard for non performance cars. In the 70's, a lot of them only went up to 85 mph.

if they put a 140 mph speedometer in it you would think it was a performance car i dont believe I'm even trying to answer this question..........what you need to do is get a speedometer that go's up to 300 mph then everybody will know that you have the fastest car around....ya right

Because 200hp will fight really hard to even get to the 120mph speed.HP and MPH are two different things
