If you are using a wireless router then you want to choose infrastructure. Ad hoc is when you do not have a router and want the PC and the laptop to communicate directly to each other.

Infrastructure is correct setting usually. Most of the time "ad hoc" connections are for printers and other wireless-enabled devices that are openly broadcasting. I have heard this can be different when connecting to certain hot spots. As always, if in doubt, call technical support responsible for specific service.

We need more info

Is the router a wired or wireless? If wired do you have network ports in the pcs? If wireless do you have wireless network adapters in all pcs?

You can connect both wired and wireless devices if you want and if you have the proper hardware.

Please provide more info in another more specific inquiry and we can be more helpful.
