my son who is almost 17 months old banged his head last sunday at universal studios...it became a bruised bump outside his head...I took him to first aid and they said the bump is better out than in so he will be fine, they gave him tyneol and tried to give him ice and refused...the swelling went down the next day and it was just a bruise...then yesterday, he hit the same spot when he fell into the cermaic boot i have(it's a decoration) this time he got a bigger bruise and 1 cut like a tiger slashed him across his forehead....the cut is now covered in dried blood...a lot of my friends say take him to the doctors but he fell and he is playing and fine. I know my son better than anyone else..what do you think and what would you do?

I would clean up the blood, put neosporin on it and cover it with a bandage, it is less likely to scar that way. As long as he is behaving in a normal fashion I wouldn't worry too much about it, kids that age have very durable and flexible skulls.
If he is acting unusually sleepy, or if his behavior changes suddenly, check his pupils, to make sure they are equally reactive to light. If there is anything obviously different about him then it is time to take him to a doctor, you are right you know your child better that anyone else, follow your instincts.

While the skull is quite tough it isn't terribly difficult to damage it, particularly in children. If he seems fine I'd say there's probably nothing wrong with him but a doctor's visit would be the safest thing you could do. A concussion is pretty easy to get and difficult to diagnose unless you happen to be a doctor. I'd say run him in to the doctor and let them have a look. At best it's just a bump and you'll end up paying the doctor's fee for peace of mind. At worst it's a serious injury and you'll have gotten him to a professional that can treat it. Good luck!

I think you should take him to the doctor to be on the safe side. I have 3 kids so I know what you mean when you say you know your son better than anyone. The worst that can happen from taking him to the doc is that the doc sais he is just fine. But if your son realy needs help than the worst could be realy bad including an infection to that cut. Blessings!

Go to the doctor to check whether there is any concussion or not. Take it seriously, this could lead to complications. I would suggest that you should have applied ice on the injured spot when he was injured. This prevents swelling and formation of any concussion.
Thank you.

ALL head injuries even what appear to be minor should ALWAYS be checked out.

Take your son to the Emergency Dept of your local hospital as soon as possible.

Better safe than sorry

I would have called the doctor. There is always the chance of a mild concussion.
