Have you heard that my beautiful country is in fire? From Trimiklini dam up to Saitas - Pelendri - Moniatis - Amiantos forest fire is burning houses and our forests ! We have only a few choppers and firemen are fighting for every bush and tree to save ! Israel and Italy will send their airplanes tonight round 10pm to help, but what until then?
Limassol is covered by clouds of smoke, the wind is getting stronger at this hour - and I do not know how to help. We tried to go up there to help, but were stopped by police: they are evacuating people from the mountain, bringing children back from summer camping sites.
I am desperate.......................................................................

Andrea, if you move from your computer and come out you can see smoke everywhere and smell the fire.
Anlarm, it is very strange there is no comment from Turkey, no help offered. Or our goverment says nothing.

Oh my God :(((((((((( the most beautiful parts of Troodos mountains :(((((((((((
Can we help? I remember when we had the great forest fire on Kyreina mountains, Klerides wanted to send fire engines and men to help but Denktaş refused it. Do you think Talat would offer help now, and Tasos will accept it? It is our common island, common home.
I just came home from the beach and read your message, it hurt me so much.
Dear Savvas, I said Talat should offer to help, not Turkey. He is also a Cypriot and should feel the pain in his heart.

Of course we should help, this would be usefull in two aspects - It would arise sympathy among Greeks towards Turks and will get two peoples closer - Forests are good for everybody, even those in the Southern Part are good for those in the North, vice versa. Thanks Tailo for being open minded :)

We must help but then again this will be the official recognization of cyprus by turkish government so I doubt that they will make any comment, let sending in fire brigades. Sad.

I am in Cyprus and am ashamed to not have known this. Thanks for letting me know. And to Spartan, how about you try going through that and then comment? I hope help is adequate and able to stop it from further spreading. It's really terrible about the forest ='[ but I hope all the people are safely evacuated. God with us. Thanks again xx
