It will never happen. With smoking you only kill yourself.
With alcohol, you kill innocent others.
Most politicians drink, but do not smoke.

Drinking will never be banned. They tried that before and it proved to be a total disaster. Drugs have been banned for awhile with limited results and many states have decriminalized marijuana and similar drugs. As for smoking I personally believe the government is intruding where it does not belong. If it wants to ban smoking in public building fine, they own them, but to ban it in private businesses and residents its just a little too much. If you don't like people smoking then don't go to the establishments that allow it. And don't complain that it not fair because it doesn't have to be. If I want to cater to smokers at the expense of non smokers that is my business. If enough people patronize my business then I will succeed, if not I go out of business. The government need to stop trying to be everyones mother mostly because the are terrible at it.

There should be less government involvement in our lives. I believing this makes me a republican. It is considered a conservative view point. To legislate personal choice and behavior is not the role intended for our government. They are overstepping their bounds. Which means we are overstepping our bounds because we are the government in that we elect these people. However, if they were elected by the majority and their legislation passes, that you should consider that "we" want the smoking ban. Thats what is so great about this country. We could all vote in the people to vote the way we want every two years. It just needs to be what most people want. You should assume that whenever a law passes with out a huge social revolution to accompany it, that it is the will of the people.
So you are a smoker? So smoke at home. The real issue with smoking is that you can't do it by yourself. You make every one around you smoke. That is so hard for smokers to hear for some reason.
Have you tried quitting? I smoked for 6 years off and on and i do not know if i will ever smoke again but i know one thing.... I know i will never be able to quit again. It was the hardest thing i have ever done in my life. Removing all caffeine from my life was the second hardest. I wish you could quit. I hate thinking of anyone dying of lung cancer.
Regardless, have fun.
Oh yeah and if we ban everything, than we take away choice, and that is just a huge step backwards for everyone. I would rather everything be legal than for us not to be able to choose for ourselves what is best for us.

Let me start off by saying that I'm a non-smoker.
Cigarettes are so bad for you that you put yourself and the people around you at risk. So, instead of banning or licensing cigarettes the government decides to just ban smoking as if people will simply quit by themselves.
My thoughts are like this. Businesses should be allowed to choose if they are going to be smoking or non-smoking with two exceptions a) government buildings and b) businesses that target children should both be non-smoking.
If cigarettes are that bad then the government should get off its a** and ban them. Until then the government should mind its own business.

The only reason for the ban is because of the relatively new findings that second hand smoke is harmful to the health of those in close proximity to the smoker. That's not true with alcohol.

Ya know, the thing with smoking is that it not only impact/affects you, but it affects those around you as well. It IS your right to smoke all you want, but it's the right of everyone around you to NOT smell/inhale your smoke. Your rights extend only as far as the next persons. When the majority of the population doesn't smoke and yet, our health can still be impacted by it, then that's where a problem occurs. You can smoke all you want, but not if it's going to harm others. I also believe parents who smoke with their kids in the car should get a ticket. Talk about being an irresponsible parent and putting your selfish addiction above the health of your children. That's a shame!

People that drink are harming themselves not other people. 2nd hand smoke harms everyone around the smoker.
Drugs are illegal. ever watch cops???
Anyway, i don't feel there needs to be a total smoking ban, but I do think there needs to be some regulation for smoking in public.

If second hand drinking starting killing people, it should also be banned from public places. An activity that directly harms people around you that don't wish to participate should only be done in specific places others don't go.

Next you will be forced to support one of the three main parties. If you don't then you wont be entitled to tax-credits, housing, health care, good education or a car. Your ID card will be monitored against you for your voting preferences too!!!.

Going to a bar and having a drink doesn't bother anyone, but lighting up a stinky cigarette in public or even in your car annoys and endangers anyone who can breath it.
I hope they ban smoking to only in your house.
