its just that whenever i look at a history of many countries, its always "independance from great britian." usa - independance. hong kong - independance. african countries - independance from britian. many others - independance. did britian once rule many countries in the world?

Not really, when they were at a peak they had France and Spain to contend with. All three held outside territories as well.

No only one third of it the French had another third and a third was never interesting enough for either the British or French.

Portuguese naval power was never a threat to the British, Portugal is Great Britain's longest ally in history.

Yes, britain was once a world superpower. The saying was, "The sun never sets on the British Empire." Because GB had colonies all around the world... the sun was up somewhere in the world at all times.

THey have owned a lot...They used to have a lot of power but now not so much...They didnt rule the world
