The only time I felt completely and utterly numb was when I saw on TV the devastation of Banda Ache, Indonesia, after the tsunami struck on that fateful day.
It was a scene totally incomprehensible to my mind that it did not know what to feel.

Hearing of the senseless deaths of the Canadian and other forces
in the middle east. I know at least 2 people over there and possibly
3. We just lost one of 4 that I knew from our area. It breaks my heart
for the family and friends left behind. 2 of those kids I taught. Every
time I hear a Canadian died, my heart takes a little leap--I pray it isn't
anyone I know. But it hurts when any of them die.

Usually an unexpected phone call or a visitor with some unbearably bad news. I'm thankful that that doesn't happen very often.
