I know all thes people say Dell but what ever you do DO NOT BUY A DELL!!!!!!!!
If your a computer guy with lots of nolege in tking apart comuters and putting them together then you can buy one, because your screwed if something breaks, when you call support they either put you on hold for hours at a time or they tell you that your screwed, or they send you a 'another computer" meaning someone elses problem computer. Dells are not reliable at all. the day i got my dell i had to replace the grapchics chip, because the one it came with came broken, then two years later i had to re-install the os, then a month later i had to re-install the os again then a month later i finally decided it was a hardware failure, so i figured it was the faulty hard drive replaced that then fewmonths later I had to re-install the os again because of a graphics failure. then last week i had to once again re-install xos because my computer was randomly deleting all my crap, do you think customer support would help me... nope i called them once they bounced my around for a few hours, so i hung up. If \it were me i would most definetly go with a Macbook, or an Hp Pavilion dv9500t. Just don't buy a dell!

if you want a all round good cheap pc buy a dell. iv had mine for 5 years and now its running vista. just need a little more memmory though. if you are doing a lot of graphical designing then go with mac their great at that. but not good for gaming or other fun stuff. pulse they cost more than most pc's. how ever i would recommend you not buy an hp or compac they are not wroth what you pay. my brothers g/f bought one for like $1000 and it got only 512 ram a low end amd and a low end graphics's card.

All major manufacturers are pretty much the same. You should go to a place like Newegg.com which has new laptops from all the major manufacturers, but cheaper.
