I think its because Yahoo could be American. I think we get overlooked in England, possibly because we're such a small insignificant country. I realised the other day when people were having a 'go' at me, because I hadn't heard about Chris Benoit.
Nevermind, we've still got Fred the weatherman and such like :-(

Because this is huge planet with a huge atmosphere. It has the capability to have several different climates at once much less weather patterns.

Even the weather you're experiencing in your part of America isn't the same weather in other parts of America or even other parts of your state.

We have similar problem here in Scotland. Even the UK national news often equates England with UK and ignores the fact that Scotland has different legal system/education system and Church etc.
As far as weather goes 'The North' often just means the north of England and of course 'the midlands' and 'home counties' are a bigger insult when used on BBC UK broadcasts
