I am trying to use the net send command, in dos on win XP. I want to find out who is connected to the network using a dos command, pick out who I want to send a message to and send them a quick message. Can anyone help me with this ? thank you,

By default, Windows XP SP2 disables the net send (messenger service). Keep that in mind if you are going to be using it. You could just create a batch or .vbs file...first ping the computer name or IP address and if it gets a response, send a message.

use
net stats
or the other one (dnt remember)!
it waas sth like net istat
