Survey: If a randomer on the internet was in desperate need of help...?

Question

would you help them, regardless of the worries that happen on the internet with identity nowadays? To what extent would you help them - physically meeting them, or just talking to and advising them one on one through the internet? And if you aren't sure, what factors does it depend on, for you?

It's a strange question but I'm just interested to know what people think

I Have done.
I sent $50 to a guy that I had never seen - only ever spoken to on a forum - when he went through a serious financial crisis.
I had known his online persona for a couple of years, and fully believed his circumstances... plus, he was verified by another forum member that I had met, face-to-face and who had met him (several forum members did the same thing)

In other circumstances, I would be very wary of what help I would give.

I have met many people that I first contacted on the net - face-to-face. socially and sexually too.
I am a male, adult and able to take care of myself. I wouldn't recommend that a girl should do the same thing (unless she was meeting me :-)

I am a retired therapist and counsellor,

it`s in my nature to help if i can in times of psychological crisis , for those in genuine need.

i would never meet with someone from the internet.
i would give them EMAIL advice and direct them to places to go for help; but, NEVER, EVER meet with anyone!!

i only give advice through email, nothin else
