Doctors do not ever have the right to release any medical information about you to anybody--parents included. The patient-doctor confidentiality protects your rights in this matter. The doctor can check to see if you're a virgin, but as the hymen can be ripped in many common sports and activities (gymnastics, cheerleading, etc.) doctors tend to go mainly by what it is you tell them. You should also request your mother is out of the room while your doctor checks. It's best to be honest with your doctor (you should start seeing an ob gyn), but if you don't feel comfortable telling him or her you are no longer a virgin then don't. Add: The person who said that your mom has a right to all your medical information until you're eighteen--in the state of New York (I know this much at least) no matter how old you are, you have the right to decide what information is released to your guardian.

It'd be unethical from your doctor to disclose to your mom stuff you have told her as your doctor. It'd be a violation of confidentiality, and if this occurs you could complain about this to the hospital where she works, or to the Board of medicine in your state. Don't hesitate to bring the subject up, next time you see the doctor, don't be shy to tell her that you hope she'll not disclose to your mom stuff you have told her as doctor, tell her clearly that that would be illegal. She'll get the message

Yes it is illegal and if she does tell your mom anything I would turn her in. And she could loose her job and everything. But by law no she can not tell.

It is illegal. She could lose her license if she tells. (Even if you are a minor, a doctor cannot tell her- unless you need surgery or something like that)

I am pretty sure she cant tell your mother unless you want her to, its part of the client confidentiality thing. If you do have a serious medical problem u need to tell your mother, if you are under the age of 18 than i think she might be able to tell your mother certain things.

you have to give your doc permission to talk to your mom. The bigger question is - why can't you talk to your mom about this stuff? Your doctor shouldn't have anything to tell her that she doesn't already know - seriously, parents only want to help.
