In a hypothetical situation where an amendment to ban gay marriage reached a final senate vote needing only a majority, the vote is 50-50 requiring the VP to cast the tie breaking vote. Knowing that his political career is probably going to be pretty much over after his term as VP (at least as an elected official), does he vote against it, thus allowing his openly gay daughter to have the chance at marriage? Or does he continue to push the ultra-conservative ideals of the administration and vote for it?

I guess I found myself thinking about this because politically he has nothing to lose by choosing to vote against the ban, thus putting his daughter before politcal ideals...

Mary Cheney doesn't support "gay marriage" either

Plenty of gays agree that the definition of marriage shouldn't be changed.

Cheney is far more dedicated to ideology than family. I have no doubt he would vote for it.

And for those who claim Mary Cheney opposes gay marriage, there is a distinction I'm certain you will never be able to grasp. Mary Cheney supports the establishment of national Civil Unions - a legal status equal to marriage for same-sex couples. Both amendments that have been proposed and defeated in the Senate would disallow these Civil Unions.

I'd like to believe that he would vote for it. Most parents want their children to live happy, fulfilling lives, regardless of their sexual orientation. But since we're talking about Cheney...

However he wants to vote, its theoretically his choice as VP. Probably against.

He would vote to ban it, thus keeping himself in good graces with the Conservative Powers-That-Be.
