How to Survive an Anaconda Attack
According to the Peace Corps manual for volunteers who work in the Amazon jungle, here is how you survive an anaconda attack (edited for space).
1. Do not run. The snake is faster than you.
2. Lie flat on the ground, put your arms tight against your sides and your legs tight against each other.
3. Tuck your chin in.
4. The snake will begin to nudge and climb over your body.
5. Do not panic.
6. The snake will begin to swallow you feet first.
7. You must lie perfectly still. This will take a long time.
8. When the snake has reached your knees, reach down, take out your knife, slide it into the side of the snake’s mouth between the edge of its mouth and your leg. Quickly rip upward, severing the snake’s head.
9. Be sure you have your knife.
10. Be sure your knife is sharp.

Uhh... yeah, RUN. Anacondas are ambush predators, if they strike and miss, they can't chase you down. They are semi-aquatic, and fairly slow on land.

Tucking in your limbs is just making it easier for the snake, if anything, sprawiling out and making yourself appear larger would be a better plan. You;d be constricted first anyway,

Finally, above all else, if this were really effective, I would think making sure you have your knife with you would be #1

Ok, I know hardly anything about snakes. I like them, think they are cool and sweet little animals. I always wanted to get one but my dad wont allow it. Just too much money for us right now. Maybe when I am old enough to make my own money and support myself.

Even though I know nothing about snakes, even I have heard that anacondas are constrictors. So, instead of "nudging you" he would be squeezing the air out of you until you can no longer inhale and finally suffocate. So in reality, you probably wouldnt make it to step 8.
And these anacondas are HEAVY. I mean they are BIG old daddies!! Certainly a human can outrun an anaconda??

Those instructions are ridiculous.
The reality?
1. The snake cannot outrun a human, so RUN!
2 & 3. Make it EASY for the snake.
4. The snake will not "nudge" you. He will constrict you until your heart stops beating.
5. &7. Yeah, sure.
6. With VERY few exceptions, snakes swallow their prey head first.
8,9, &10. If the snake REALLY is big enough to swallow you, it makes no difference how big or sharp your knife is, you will not be strong enough to sever a snakes head!

Idiotic. Unless it's right on top of you, I guarantee you can run faster than an anaconda that's large enough to eat you. Also, a big constrictor like an anaconda wouldn't just eat something it found lying there, it would CONSTRICT it first, crushing you. I hope they don't actually give this out to people.

This has been around since at least 1999, and is not official in any way. It does NOT appear in anyone's REAL manual or guide.

It was originally written as a joke, which is pretty obvious if you really read it.

I'd follow it if I wanted to die. They aren't very fast except in the water and they ambush so if you run into one on land it's not hungry or at least not hunting. They also wouldn't attempt to eat you until they have constricted you and they would swallow you head first. so who ever told you that was dumb as a rock and/or on crack.
