I believe our government would collapse and our economy would dissolve over night. There would be riot and war everywhere. But what do you think then?

Could you all please give me any realistic scenario here? The world today where we're not ready for oil shortage?

Such a situation is not expected in the near future, for the following reasons :
- The presently known reserves are sufficient for about 50years;
-New sources of hydrocarbons are being discovered regularly, adding to the known reserves;
- Natural gas is coming up as an alternate fuel for industries;
- New type of fuels based on alternate resources are being developed;
- Bio-fuels are also being explored;
- Microbial organisms can also come to our rescue;
- Mixing of oil with other sources of energy like alcohol etc. is being practised;
- Alternate chemical sources of energy are being developed and tested;

I think we would adapt. We already have the technology to overcome that problem. We just don't use it because of money. The economy would take a big hit, which would only be temporary, but there would not be any riots or war over it, not on any major scale (can't fight a war without the oil anyway). We'd just start employing the technology we already have in reserve, and go from there. For that matter, we have oil reserves to keep us going until the new technologies were employed. That is what they are for. I think you underestimate us.

I don't know that it would be suddenly, but it would be close enough. It would give us a little time to see where we could get more oil. And that scenerio is why we continue to look for solutions. Russia, Africa, Canada, Alaska, US all have oil as well as the middle east and venezuela. And, this is why we want to stay friendly with other countries.

Nothing. For a short time, there will be chaos. People will find an alternative.
