We live in a Beth Johnson House but it's a private landlord who owns our house (it's confusing but bear with me..).
For the late eight months we have had a mouse infestation which we personally have spent hundreds of pounds trying to sort out, everything from getting professional pest control people in, getting the council to put poison down, getting electromagnetic units fitted etc.

The reason the mice are not leaving and are still getting in the house is because we have massive floorboard cracks and holes EVERYWHERE. We have filled them in best we can but the mice keep chewing through everything and the council have told us the floorboards need completely replacing to seal off all the nests and stop new mice getting in.

Now then, Beth Johnson have to ask our private landlord to foot the bill to do this and they're refusing. We can't personally speak to the landlord, Beth Johnson have to on our behalf.

How do I make the landlord sort this out? We're going crazy!

Basically there is no legal entity that will act on your behalf its in the private domain.

If you were to sue him I am pretty sure you would win unless somehow he can proove that you caused the infestation. If you did though why would he let you continue to stay.

Unless you have a solid contract he can of course simply serve you notice and have you evicted I would imagine this is likely if you were to sue him.

I would consider moving in all honesty.

Is the lease silent on vermin control? Who is responsible for repairs?

Based on all the answers it seems there is no help for you in the US. Too bad you don't live in Canada, you could just call the building inspector, and he would nail your landlord's *** to the wall. I still find it hard to believe that your government doesn't regulate rental housing, I would look into it...

call the health dept. u dont have to pay ur rent until the issue is resolved, but u must put the money in an escrow account in case of evection. but it is the landlords responsibility. usually if u just threaten them with the health dept, they get the problem taken care of right away

i dont know but in brittish law may be the same, landlords are responsible for all repairs to property, and if the property is not up to a certain standard for habitation you are well within your right to withold rent until the problem is rectified or take the person to court
