Super 8 - there were 3 crack addicts in the room next door who stayed up all night long. Saw them the next morning - two old women and an old guy all washed out from the drugs wandering around like zombies.
Also, a Best Western where both the elevator and a/c was out in the hotel the first night. We didn't even get anything comped!
The hotels in Ireland were extremely small. You had to open the front door and put your luggage in the bathroom, then close the front door in order to get your luggage onto your bed.
I also stayed in a local-named hotel that had a badly worn double mattress, a 70's tv and more roaches than I have ever seen. I guess that's why you get for like $30 a night.

Back in my student days I had to get a temporary room in a hotel and it had to be cheap...
I started to get a bad feeling, when the taxi driver said "oh this is the street where they found the Yorkshire Rippers last victim". The "lounge" had a fish tank with two fat and ugly goldfish swimming around with what looked like about an inch of fish poo collected on the bottom.
The room was Spartan and had a rusty iron frame bed. The breakfast seemed to have been cooked the night before, maybe even longer. I was forced by my soft manner, to sit and eat it while the landlord prattled on about the weather and watched every mouthful I took. I think I would've been better sleeping in a bus shelter.
My favourite was a friend who stayed at a hotel in Paris. He says, scratched into the wall of the bathroom, was one word in 2 foot letters: LICE.

I can't remember what the name of it was, but on a family trip to Washington DC, we had to stay at this crummy road-side deal outside DC because there was some kind of huge soccer tournament going on in the city that week and all the nice hotels were full. This place had the paint peeling off the walls, ragged carpet, looked like no one had been in there for years because of all the cobwebs! It looked a lot like the type of hotel you see in those horrible slasher flicks. But the worst thing about it was the ceiling. It looked like the underside of a bridge! I was only 12 at the time so I was scared out of my mind. Needless to say, now me and my family make reservations ANYWHERE we go!

Eww. It was a little independent motel in Statesboro, GA. We were visiting friends at Georgia Southern U. This place had to be the nastiest, filthies, God-awful place I have ever set foot in. (With shoes, that is). I didn't take my shoes off the whole time I was there and I even wore flip flops in the shower! The carpet was matted and I'm not sure what it's original color had been, but now it is blackish-brown. It was hideous. I shiver just thinking about it.

It wasn't bad due to aesthetics, but it was a hotel in Baltimore that had unbelievable prices for food......a veggie pizza about the size of a small dish was $8 and I don't even want to talk about the prices for dinner. I scrambled to a CVS for a loaf of bread, peanut butter and Rockstar.

It was in a tiny town of interior south dakota. The room had no tv, one bed that was a fold out couch. It didn't even have an alarm clock. The worst part was as soon you walked in the room there was this thick almost palpable stench of "sex" in the room. Very disgusting.

Holiday Inn Sunspree Panama City Beach "they lost our reservation" then put us up in two different roach motels. WOuld not give us our money back, and then when I got upset Kody Kahn the then GM threatened to have me arrested. They did give us dinner vouchers which I used to order their most expensive food and then just threw it away. I did that for a week.
