If you have the computer on looking at the desktop picture it seems to jump from side to side. You don't have to be in any program or touching the keyboard or mouse for it to happen. It happens in applications or out. I thought it might be a refresh rate problem.

It seems it was a cheap switch we had to switch between my computer and my husbands. The new computer and monitor did not like it. We took it out and its fine now.

How much does it move and is it a CRT monitor or LCD?
Does the entire screen move uniformly and by how much?

If it is a CRT:
Look for an external magnetic source that might be effecting the screen.

If it is an LCD:
It might be a set up problem. Put up a screen with a lot of vertical black and white lines, Notebook filled wit 'H's is good, and hit the auto-setup on the monitor.

Your best bet is to talk to the hardware maker on this one. It may be a monitor that's about to quit on you or overheating, but it could also be a failing video card or corrupted video drivers. Since it's brand new, you should still be under warranty.

It's statistically rare that new PCs will arrive with built-in issues, as it were, but it does happen. Usually the manufacturer will be very quick to try to fix these problems when they do arise.

If you had the PC built specifically for you by a local hardware shop, you may be able to get it solved even faster, depending on whether the shop in question is reputable or not. Each machine they build is, after all, a much higher percentage of their business...

Could it be the graphics driver, as they are the cause of most problems when viewing. Try looking into the device manager and searching google for a new driver for the card you have.

Also, if its brand new, you might want to check to see if you have forgotten to install any software with the computer. Just a thought ...

Hope this helps =)

Just 2 possibilities.
Driver trouble in the computer, or a short in the monitor itself.
Either way, take it back.

Is it on wheels?

Can you be more specific as to the nature of the fault?
