They are Masonic Lodge halls where the Masons hold their ritual lodge meetings. Perhaps you are more familiar with a similar fraternal order known as the Knights of Columbus? The Masonic Order is a very old, some say ancient, fraternal order. Many of our nation's founding fathers were Masons...Washington, Jefferson, Hamilton, etc. The Masons charitable works include orphanages in several locations across the nation.
You may also be familiar with a higher order of Masons called the Shriners. The Shriners are well known for their charitable works, including the children's burn centers and hospitals all over the nation.
I doubt that you are seeing "all the freemason symbols" but probably just the vertically opposed carpenter's square and compass, and perhaps inside these, the letter G which stands for God.

Even the smallest of small towns has at least one Masonic lodge around us. My husband is a Mason, and he insists they are not a "secret society," they are a society with secrets. As one leader of the Masons said--"We aren't secret--we have bumper stickers, for goodness' sake!"
The Masons are a service group. They hold fundraisers to help crippled children, especially, and there are Masonic homes for the elderly. They're no more than nursing homes--my father once designed one in southern Indiana. They do have secret rituals, involving certain ceremonies, but I think part of the reason they're secret is because they might look a little silly to outsiders--after all, grown men wearing aprons might look a little odd to complete strangers. Think of it as a club with a really good treehouse, whose members make sure the kids who come in are only the ones who play nice.
The secret symbols usually have a slightly obscure meaning, but they aren't harmful in any way. The official symbol of the Masons, the square and compass with the "G" in the middle, dates back to their supposed origins in the Masonic Guilds of the middle ages. The "secret handshake" also dates back to that time. Anyone at that time could wander from town to town claiming to be a Master Mason, so the real ones developed a certain handshake--only real Master Masons knew it, so if the person was lying, they could be found out right away. The square and compass reminds Masons that they should be true and follow in the right direction. We get the phrases "on the square" and "moral compass" from this. And the "G" stands for either "Good" or "God," depending on who you talk to.
Some people claim that it's demonic, but that's hardly the case. Each lodge has its own Bible, and they only allow members who have a belief in a higher power (not necessarily Christian). In fact, the Bible used to swear in George Washington was the Bible belonging to Lodge #1, in New York City. It is still made available to all presidents, whether or not they are Masons, if they would like to be sworn it with it.

Freemasonry is an oath bound fraternal order of men which derives from the medieval fraternity of Freemasonry. We adhere to many of the Ancient Charges, laws, customs and legends of operative freemasonry. We are loyal to the civilian government under which we exist. We inculcate moral and social virtues by symbolic application of the operative stonemasons' working tools and by allegories, lectures and charges.
Freemasonry obligates its members to obey the principles of brotherly love, equality, mutual aid, secrecy, and confidence. We have secret modes of recognition that permit members to recognize each other as brothers. We require a through examination into the mental, moral and physical qualifications of a petitioner and we admit men into the fraternity by secret ceremonies based in part on legends of the Craft.
Once a person has decided to apply for membership he fills out a petition signed by 2 members of the Lodge he desires to join. He gives the petition to one of the members along with the required initiation fee. The petition is read at the Lodge's next stated meeting when the Worshipful Master will appoint an investigating committee who will interview the petitioner in person. this investigating committee will report back to the Lodge at the following stated meeting when all members present will vote to accept or reject the petitioner. upon acceptance the petitioner is given the three degrees of Entered Apprentice, Fellow Craft and then the Sublime Degree of a Master Mason. There are certain requirements a candidate must meet before proceeding from one degree to the next.
One must obtain the Sublime Degree of a Master Mason before he is allowed to wear any Masonic jewelry.
One must have a belief in a Supreme Being.
The tenets of the Masonic Fraternity are " Brotherly Love, Relief and Truth. "
The Masonic Fraternity is NOT Secret Society but rather a Society With Secrets like many other Fraternal Orders such as the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, the Eagles, Elks, Moose, Druids, American Legion, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, Sons of Confederate Veterans of the Civil War, etc.
Suggest if you are of legal age and are interested in pursuing interest in the Masonic Fraternity you contact a man whom you know is a Mason for further information and an application. If no local Masonic Lodge is available then you can contact the Grand Lodge of Masons for the State in which you reside. The Grand Lodge Officers will be glad to help in any way possible.
Please contact a Mason or Masonic Lodge directly rather than rely on information posted here. there are many who do not have correct information.
