If you're doing it piecemeal go take a look at how it's made (if you need shingles or nails or tar and figure out what you need and then talk to someone at Home Depot about it. If you're doing an entire section and it's a flat area then you would need maybe something to lift it up on one side so it would drain properly and you'd need to put down a roll first. Usually roofs last ten years so if you're is still fairly new then maybe there is some guarantee from the last person who put on the roof. Sometimes roofing costs a lot more because two layers could be too heavy so one layer has to be removed before a new layer can be put on. I don't think the asbestos is such a good thing these days as working with it could cause breathing problems, and it may take the EPA to remove it (maybe that's why the cost is high). So be careful. I once had Sears do a roof for me. You might want to get several companies to quote you and then go with the most reputable. Maybe you can get a loan against your mortgage or, if you're in hurricane prone areas there are loans for upgrades you can get (and some they will pay you to upgrade your house). Ask what's out there.
If you're not worried about looks you can use anything up there to stop the rain in a pinch. But, use tar to patch the gaps and let a hot day melt that into place. I don't know your age either, maybe it would be better to hire some neighborhood guys to install that if they have a tall ladder and good insurance and you have good insurance in case they or you fall. I think to get a new roof entirely you need a county or city permit (which professionals can get before doing the job)

use a tarp. try to avoid the big blue one. there are many out there. i like the thick plastic/ or heavy duty plastic that comes in large rolls at your Home Depot or local home improvement store. if your roof is pitched (slanted)you have to make sure that when the water runs downhill that it has no way to get under the tarp. so if the tarp is not long enough and you'll have to use more than one piece start at the low point of the roof and when you overlap the next piece make sure the top one is overlapped about a foot on top of the bottom one(the first one). heres some top secret info...dont puncture, rip, tear, the tarp: it will mean that all your hard work was a hard lesson and wont work. the water is going to run through the hole. this also means DO NOT NAIL, OR STAPLE the tarp. use heavy bricks of something to hold down the tarp. you are able to nail or staple the tarp to the side of the house. if you live in a very windy area this might not be a good solution. wind loves to move tarps from one house to the neighbors house 2 blocks away...................... happy fixing.......................you can do it

I had an asbestos "big six" form roof, and I can tell you once the asbestos deteriorates and is past it's sell by date no amount of bitumen (any product) applied will last. Where the bitumen makes contact with the asbestos it will break down further so 12 months is the maximum before it will leak again. I regret patching is an ongoing chore once started and is only a stopgap.

Hi there.
I would stick down roofing felt with mastic and then, if feeling flush, put a layer of the ruberised bitumen paint over the whole lot. Shouldn't cost a lot and will actually look better then the asbestos roof as well as being better insulated.
Cheers, Steve.

If you make informed decisions and approach your penny stock investments with the same thoroughness that you’d use in your other investments, you too can unlock a whole lot of profit potential. Learn here https://tr.im/hXhxZ
It’s absolutely true that penny stock investors can make very quick gains. Synutra International, Inc. (NASDAQ: SYUT) is a great example of a penny stock. This dairy-based, nutritional-products company has jumped from a little Bulletin Board operation to a billion dollar corporation. The company finally graduated from Over-the-Counter status to the NASDAQ Stock Market bringing with it 113% gains in less than two months.
This happens all the time and it’s how some of the best investors in the world became the richest investors in the world. Buying some shares for pennies on the dollar and selling at $10 or $20 is possibly the fastest way from being a hobby investor to a super investor

there is a product you can buy from most building merchants called "acropol" this is applied with a paintbrush(thick as you can) it contains fibres which form a mesh over the holes (up to 15mm) be aware that asbestos is very fragile so make sure you work from a platform,at least lay a ladder across the roof! this stuff is used by the pro's.
