I think the concept of watching people get beat up as a sport is barbaric.

Im a big boxing fan. Here is my concept on both sports.
#1 It takes mental strength to get started and to proceed with training.
#2 Boxing is a sport where you hit and must not be hit.
#3 In boxing their has to be a plan or plans to outclass the opponent.
#4 I enjoy when a fighter shows no quit in him and continues to fight. At the end of the fight if both fighter's are still standing they will show their sportsmanship toward each other even if the fight ends by Knockout.

I dont like wrestling,
#1 its fake
#2 I think it looks wierd to see men in small clothing grappling with each other on the floor.

I'm a man, and I don't like either. Meanwhile, both sports are actually very popular with women. You may or may not be right about the barbarity of the sport, but it is not just a guy thing.

It is that primitive urge that goes back to cave man times when one had to protect one's territory and every stranger was a potential enemy. Remember that the handshake as a greeting has its origins in two people putting their hands forward to show that they were not carrying a weapon. It's the same instinct that makes males jostle and shove one another as part of their play time. They also enjoy watching other males and sometimes females push and shove each other also. They are just waiting for the situation to explode and turn into a full on fight.

I guess for the same reasons that women watch soap operas all day .
Men want the excitement and drama from sports .
I like sports but i do not like what happens to boxers after they retire and get old .
Boxers take too many hits to the head and they get alzheimers .

Coz fighting ang proving strength are commonly thought to be manly . But girls also watch them. Fighting has always been a popular item. Action films do good bussiness. This may be another reason.

deep in our hearts we want to be
strong and unbeatable. We watch the sports and feel like being one like them.

So do I. It is as though we are digressing as a species. I guess I cannot completely be free of it - I do like football - but I like the strategy.

But you also must admit that women seem to be getting more violent also - and enjoying it. Could it be that our society holds this type crap in higher regards than intellectual things?

Well, for pro wrestling, we like the violence, the storylines (sometimes), and the fact that it gets us away from our problems in life for 2 hours (1 for ECW, 1 for TNA, 3 for PPV's, but generally 2 hours for the big shows (RAW and SmackDown!))
