You know the answer to this question perhaps without realising that you know, and the things that we do not know we know often cause distractions deep inside the mind, to the mind they are like shining objects overlooked in sand, and while we try to concentrate upon things obviously in front mind tends to keep glancing inwards.
This is true that we are ‘not satisfied and look for acknowledgement, a sense of achievement or something else’ and that we always ‘push ourselves towards ever greater success’. This in my understanding is what motivates people, but when you get tired you like being dragged behind the unruly hoarse of life ever galloping forward. The question is why people get tired of achieving and why we run out of motivation? Could that the same reason I mentioned earlier, that we have something else in the mind deeper still, and more valuable, unrealised to our senses?
It is often the case that people look for something for more meaningful without knowing what exactly it is. I have seen people oft times end up into wrong professions, get stuck with wrong people, and stay locked in bad situations, for what other reason if not due to their inability to know exactly what they need.
Life is processional, things follow things and while we make efforts our concentration builds up and we gain momentum; we get into the swing of things. This self-perpetuating process of generating motivational energy by making concerted efforts for the purpose we have in the mind can come to a halt and all the energy can evaporate in time. In that can we are not looking for an immediate remedy for our motivational problem, but incentives that would perk us up yet again into an action of our true liking.

i think that something you yearn for is quite literally something you can find within you. maybe, other people are letting you down and taking you down for a few bumpy slopes, but knowing the fact that they're pulling you towards destruction means you have to go get a grip. motivate yourself and think of how it would feel like if they knew you were making it big, and they weren't. motivation comes from within and you work on it as you get older, and although you might face some downfalls in life, they really are the ones that make you go higher twice as you've done the previous. i agree that a little acknowledgement for the things we achieved can really help boost our motivation, but well hey, we can't really impress or please everybody. the only thing that matters is if we ASTOUND ourselves and say, 'wow, i really did that.'
god bless

*...Smiles...* (My OPINION Below)
Totally agree with you Mick!
There are 3 groups:
*Those who have and don't want more
*Those who have but want more
*Those who don't have and want more.
The problem is the amount of people that fit into the second and third group is way too high!
Humans are built attracted to potential.."What we could have", "what we could be"...The more food is put on your plate, greater your appetite is..
These days people seem so obsessed with the latest technologies like Ipods and MP4's..People forget about the large number of people that have NOTHING!
For me the satisfaction comes in knowing how fortunate I am. I have all of the things we take for granted nowadays - family, friends, love, health, food, water, shelter & an education!
Different people gain motivation in different places - for me its from music, writing, my sister, my parents & certain friends.
Thank You!
Loved your question..

Motivation is created inside everybody as a result of influation of ideas and own experience. If a person does a bad experience and take the conclution that he usually does things wrong, so he will loose his motivation.
Man must find wisdom out of own experience. We must analyse what we do. It is no use in defaitism. We must also listen and read other peoples ideas.

The word motivation tends to only be used be those who feel they don't have enough.
Motivation is just the name for the feeling of wanting to do more in your life in some way.
If you really want more for yourself then that IS your motivation, nothing more.
Some think of motivaion as some form of emotion and that's where they have a problem. You can't feel motivated, you can only be motivated.
Forget motivation and just go for whatever you want in life. It really is there for the taking.

Definatly depends on what kind of person you are. Are you the kind that is just able to go for what they want or do the washing up as soon as they've finished eating. Or the kind that needs to be told 'do your homework or I'll kick you up the a*se!'
Motivation comes from many sources.

Depends on what you value.
Your values are set up very early in life, in order to change them, it usually takes a crisis. Too bad.
The crisis is most likely caused, directly or indirectly by the very values you hold. Know thyself, and you will know what specific value you might want to re-program.

I think motivation comes from your future dreams. I really want to become a doctor; a factor that is motivating me to work my butt off studying for the MCAT (believe me, I am not much of a study person)

The actor turned to the director and asked: "what is my motivation ?"
The director answered: "You want to eat, don't you?"
