Well done, Mika Bizezinski, well done. At least someone has finally had the courage to stand up and say "enough is enough".
What does everyone else think? and do you think that if we all refused to perpetuate the "celeb" drivel, would the media listen?

Edit: Richard, you make a very good point. Surely though, by doing what she did, Mika proved that she IS a journalist who wants to focus on genuine news, as opposed to a TV presenter.

Maybe someone should petition MSNBC to make sure she doesn't lose her career over this.

I am a little embarassed to admit that I emailed the Editor of MSNBC to congratulate Mika on her stand. It's a bit dumb, I doubt it would have had any effect, but I wanted the powers-that-be to know that there are people worldwide who agree with her.

Also, if there are lots of people who agree that this celebrity culture drivel has gone too far, what can we do about it? Obviously we can (and I do) refuse to watch any of that type of dross, but how can we genuinely make a stand? How do we get the media to realise that there are plenty of cable channels like MTV, E etc to cater for that type of crap, the News should be exactly that, NEWS?

Absolutely yes !!
media is getting sickening with its celeb news and it was a pleasure to see a dedicated journalist ensuring that we remain focussed...
am so glad u got this discussion here...
For once we all can atleast applaud Mika if not give her a medal...
And yes, if we all refused to perpetuate the "celeb" drive i think media WOULD HAVE to listen. Ultimately viewership depends on us and our preferences... so a "strong no" to celeb news will definitely help provided u really get ppl who think they can make a difference and have their priorities set right.

i do no longer care what every physique says. China is BLATANTLY dishonest, so there is each acceptable to get mad. it is likewise possible to work out it interior the U.S. gymnasts faces that they are even pissed. the comprehensive time they have been identifying the BS tiebreaker with He and Nastia, Nastia regarded like she needed to kill somebody. for my section, i think of, if there takes place to be a tie, there needs to be 2 medals offered (for this reason gold). If athletes carry out to the precise same high quality then why shouldn't they be offered the precise same prize? i could say, i think that taking it to the .001 of a element became right into somewhat ridiculous. Nastia's overall performance became into plenty tighter than he's. And hands down, she had much less seen errors. i think undesirable for the U.S. women, fairly. they are doing away with factors that would desire to no longer be deducted (or a minimal of too many), and awarding the chinese language with ridiculously severe rankings. and that's all inspite of the age difficulty. I do experience if that's shown then the underaged women could be stripped of their medals; even if, it probably won't in any respect be pursued. through fact China is dishonest we've each acceptable to be dissatisfied- fairly the competing athletes! ultimately, they'd desire to think again the element gadget here. that's needless to say unfair. the entire habitual should not be desperate on the commencing up fee, which seems to hold the main weight whilst it is composed of the entire. in basic terms for the checklist- I do have self belief that Yiling did a brilliant pastime, and that i do have self belief she could have had a a strategies better score.

It was a brave thing too do, I watched it on you tube, it won't help her career but it was a good stand. Paris Hilton is a spoiled brat who is about as interesting as watching paint dry,
if she wasn't an heiress she wouldn't even be in the news. News should be about real events not the antics of an anorexic, plastic, bleached blond, dumb bimbo.
So I salute you Mika, what a woman, an I hope it doesn't hurt her career.
I think the media like to steer us away a bit from real news, we call it dumbing down in the UK, maybe they think its too depressing or we won't understand.

OH - Good for Mika!!!! She is absolutely right - with all the other things going on in the world, and the media want to focus on some spoiled woman who couldn't even do 23 days in prison without making a song and dance about it! PAH! Mika definitely deserves a medal in my eyes!

I agree with her, that Paris Hilton's story is not important news, and I admire that she took a stance on that. I also think that Paris has come under a lot of public scrutiny, people should leave her case (negative input or positive).
If she has truly changed, then God is able to change all hearts and perhaps her experience in prison is what she needed to go through to initiate that. But I also feel that if she sincerely wants to help charity, then she should do that not for "media attention"
but with pleasing God in mind.

She was right to make a stand! Would she have read it happily if it came last though? Probably!
Why because so many people in this 'sick' world really do want to know what the latest 'Hot Celeb' had for breakfast.
The Media knows what 'sells'.
Does she deserve a medal? No! They should me reserved for people who put their lives on the line!

For one, Jay Leno had it right last night.. They are priveledged and pampered and they have to accept the fact that they have to maintain a certain behaviour in order to "earn it".. (talking to Dr Phil).
Paris Hilton has earned nothing, and is really not famous for anything more than making a poor video and being a spoiled rich girl. She "tried" to make a CD, but no one thought much of it...
I dont go for "pampered" celebrities.. As I tell my Children, the only thing between them and me, is that they have a "high profile" job, where I worked as a City Employee and only when we were "needed", were we ever "important"!
I wish you well...

I've been refusing to perpetuate the celebrity drivel for years, but the media gets worse and worse. I commend Ms. Bizezinski, however.

This woman sounds very sensible the whole Paris Hilton thing has been an absolute farce and, as for prison making her a changed person, who is she trying to kid. I am pleased someone is trying to stick up for serious newscasting.
