So my question is: could there be any unhappy consequences to using a gas stove? I don't know what started the fire this morning, but I suspect it had to do with gas as it was near the driers. I want to make something to eat, but I also don't want to die.

If it was gas it would have caused a explosion . It being near the driers could be several reasons other than gas . If you where not told to not use the gas then your OK to cook just don't leave your laundry alone in drier .

If there was any problem with the gas, including the fire, the gas will now be shut off until conditions are safe. If your stove lights, use it.

If it was with the driers, then it was probably electrical. Go ahead and cook. You would be able to smell the gas if that was the problem.

Well a gas stove does not warn you if something is working maybe you left it on,or maybe you did the mistake of putting oil induced clothes and if it was in the washing machine, then it's still oil induced,or a gas leak just happened
