A friend and I are staying at the MGM later this month. i have read that it is at one end of the strip (south) so in order to make our way we will be walking a decent amount? So I am curious what would be the best way to get around? Monorail? Walking? Cab?

Also, should I carry a back-pack since going back and forth from the room is just to much time?

Any advice would be great.

Getting around is easy the monorail will cost $7 one way you can get a discount when you buy 10 tickets (like one free ride) This will go from the MGM all the way to the Las Vegas Hilton.

There is the Deuce (double decker bus air conditioned) $5 for a 24 hour pass its stops up and down the strip just get a location map so you know were to get on and off.

There are the taxi's average cost for up and down the strip ranges from about $12-$24 depending how far and long you are in the car and don't forget to tip.

If you don't plan on leaving the strip I would use the deuce if you are then use the taxi's.

As far as a back pack yes pack water with you, just remember if stop to play table games, keep it by your feet and if you are at the slots keep your foot in the loop so no one will take it.

Have Fun and good luck

The monorail runs from the MGM to the Sahara, with stops at Paris/Ballys, Flamingo, Harrahs, Convention Center, Las Vegas Hilton and the Sahara. A single ride is $5, 2way is $9, 10 rides $35 or which I think is the better way to go, 1 day pass $15, 3 day $40. Or like the others suggested the Duece which is aprox. $5 for a 24 pass. Those two would be the least expensive ways to travel beside walking up and down the strip. Which toward the end of July, I wouldnt do. Do take a backpack to carry things you might need and things you pick up along the way, and always have water with you.

Having been there a few times, I would recommend using the monorail and the Deuce (bus) to get around. To get from one area of the strip to another quickly, use the monorail. If you are not sure where you want to stop, or what you want to see, buy an all day pass on the Deuce and ride up and down the strip and the downtown area and get on and off as things strike your fancy. For information about the monorail, including prices, what's at each stop, maps, etc, go to the source given below.

There is a monorail station at MGM, all kinds of buses up and down the strip. You will have no problem getting around if you get tired walking. Have fun

Best thing to do is just to walk it all the way through because a monorail does take you from one distance to another but you're going to miss the view of the strip(Vegas Blvd) since it rides behind the casinos and if you take a cab you're looking forward to spend some money on those things so I would suggest you to walk, besides it's good for your helth and you also get to see a lot of girls or guys walking around. Yes take a back-pack since going back to your hotel room will take a lot of time of your fun. I know my way's around, I do live in Vegas.

It's hot this time of year, in the 100's most of the time, even at night.

However, walking allows you to see/appreciate the vastness of the megaresorts and then be awed by the glitter at nigtht.

Take along alot of water and drink otfen...it's easy to dehydrate quickly.

If you get to tired walking, you can catch the Monorail at various stations from MGM on one end to the Hilton (are you a Star Trek Fan...go to the Hilton) on the other opposite end.

Good Luck and have fun.

There are many ways to get yourself around. I stayed at Mandalay bay not too long ago which is very close to MGM and you can go across the street to Mandalay Bay and hop on the monorail to take you over to Luxor. If you really want to get wild you can setup an a day to get on the party bus which is a great way to drink and have a sober designated driver. The bus travels and tours the city so you get 2 birds with one stone.

There is a bus that runs up & down the strip. It is $2. There is a 24 hour pass I think. The bus is called the deuce (double decker) and runs about every 7-10 minutes. The bus is part of the citizens area transit. You might be able to find out more information at the web site.

What are you finding for? on the strip? Downtown Fremont St? much less severe priced? maximum suitable strip inns that could properly be greater costly: Caesars Palace, Paris, Venetian, Mandalay Bay maximum suitable off strip inns: palms, Rio Fremont: Golden Nugget (has an mind-blowing new pool) much less severe priced: Imperial Palace (centrally placed on the strip), Harrah's, Sahara you do not unavoidably choose a holiday from the airport. There are a lot of cabs and any inn you reside at on strip would be not greater suitable than a $10 cab fare.
