i hate to bring you down but heres how it works. your bust your balls doing a good job you may be appreciated but the employer will be rubbing his hands together like a modern day fagin. more work for the same level of pay. dont take any promotion unless your given a very good pay rise, some employers have tried to give me more work extra responsibility on the same rate of pay thats not promotion thats slavery. if you dont want promotion dont take it. sorry to bring you down even more but its always the brown noses and snitches that get the breaks, us decent folk get trod on. as for do they respect the individuals wishes? ahm no in the long run. if you say no watch your back. do your set hours do your job within the remit get your wages and bugger off to the bar at knocking off time, let them assholes(employers) worry about work.

Some companies do what you to want to move up in the company and others like you to stay where you started.
I was let go from a CPA firm for taking accounting classes because they wanted me to stay head bookkeeper. They have trouble keeping bookkeeping staff they keep becoming CPAs and wanting promoted.

Huh?

Hard to understand what your concern is, but try to work out a plan with your supervisor to fill the ground for a future promotion
