Micrometer typically is much more accurate and precise than calipers.
Calipers can take a measurement more quickly so it is an efficient choice when accuracy is not a concern. Calipers often also can take measurements in difficult locations to reach while a micrometer is more limited.

Actually it depends upon the specific instruments you have.
In principal a micrometer (officially called a micrometer caliper) can be built to measure at higher precisions and accuracies than can a vernier caliper. This is because of the designs of the two instruments.
However, some micrometers are not made to as tight a precision and accuracy because they are built for an application where such precision and accuracy (and added cost) are not needed. In these cases, the two can be equally precise and accurate.
Let's say a micrometer has a +/- 0.1 mm accuracy. A vernier can do this as well. Another micrometer has a +/- 0.01 mm accuracy - this is harder to do with a vernier.
Finally there is a major difference between accuracy and precision. If high precision is required, you are probably better off with a micrometer.
Precision is the variance in measurements. Accuracy is the variance from the true value. In any measurement, you need first to have high precision; accuracy can be achieved by calibration provided you have high precision.
Micrometers use a precisely threaded fine screw as its measurement base. Verniers slide over a scale. Precision is almost always higher using teh precisely threaded screw method.

A quality hand micrometer and quality hand caliper are of equal accuracy. I didn't believe it until someone proved it to me by actually having me do a series of measurements in the lab. However, we also had a bench mounted mic. that weighed about 50lbs and used a calibrated force to move the spindle. That was more accurate than either hand-held tool. So, yeah, a micrometer is more accurate than a vernier under the right circumstances.

Firstly, you should be clear about least count, precision and accuracy. Accuracy simply means how close or how far the measured result is from the true value. Precision is the repeatability of a value. Least count comes into picture while trying to determine precision and accuracy. A micrometer is generally more precise (it has a smaller Least Count, generally 0.01 mm against 0.02 mm of the vernier).
Accuracy can be affected by zero error, which can be corrected by calibration of the instrument, but precision and least count are more or less built-in and are difficult to correct.

Vernier Caliper can measure up to 1/10the of mm while Micrometer can measure up to 1/100th of mm. Both are accurate in their respective measurements. We can't prefer one over the other unless we are given the length to be measured by both of them.

The vernier calliper is more accurate, all it needs for a true reading is good eyesight, the micrometre is pressure sensitive and even the best ones are subject to this disadvantage,

Verneir Calipers are pretty useful and accurate... and so are micrometres... but it all comes down to what you are measuring!

The micrometre is the more accurate, it measures in smaller incroments.
