the best way is to turn off the fridge even though most refrigerators have a defrost button that you can use.this way ,you can clean the whole fridge.put all the frozen food in a container as it will defrost and be watery.the vegetables and other food items are alright on the counter or you can also put them in containers so that it won't clutter your kitchen.then use warm water and non-abrasive soap.wash and wipe away all the inner surfaces.then clean it again with a dry towel.leave the fridge for about an hour after cleaning and then put all of your things in the fridge.for a more freshness smell to your fridge.cut a lemon in half and put in the fridge.so you will have a lemony smell to it.usually it takes about 2hours to clean an average size fridge
good luck = )

Put the food in a couple of coolers and unplug the fridge. Get rid of everything that's old and wash the fridge out with hot water and bleach. You should see the crud I have to deal with cuz peeps don't throw anything away. You should also use that long extension on your vacuum to clean out the coils under your fridge every month or two. If you have animals do it every few weeks.

If its a frost free fridge, dont bother to defrost it, until you go to
http://appliancequickfix.com/ and find out what the problem is.
If its not self defrosting, unplug it and take all the food out and
melt the ice off with a hair blower.

Freeze a couple of cold packs, then run the fridge or freezer down, put the cool packs into a coolbox and keep food chilled until you're ready to put it back in fridge /freezer.
Alternate suggestion ask a riend or neighbour if you can put food in their fridge/freezer.

wait until your fridge is empty, put the perishables in an ice chest, and use a leaf blower to de-ice your fridge, it takes a fraction of the time !!!!
